These days, there’s no reason for anyone to be a fashion victim – and we’re not just talking about people. Animals should no longer suffer for fashion and thankfully, there’s really no need for them to.

Technological advancements in the past years have led to the creation of high quality faux fur. It’s the same look, feel and warmth as real fur, without the pain and suffering inflicted upon animals and without the consequent negative impact on our ecosystems.

With the reality of global warming and the environmental crisis, sustainability is on everyone’s minds and that includes the clothing that we all wear. The fashion industry has been labeled by many reports as the second most polluting industry in the world. Aside from the pollution that it causes, it has other destructive consequences on our environment, not least of which concerns animal welfare and the industry’s carbon footprint, as well as a negative social impact. While there’s so much to be concerned about in terms of what’s happening behind the scenes and within the fashion industry, it can seem like there’s nothing much that we, as individuals, can do about it. However, the fact of the matter is, consumers have so much power. Just the fact that we all wear clothes everyday means that there’s something that we can do.

One thing that we can all certainly do is to be mindful of our own consumption habits and to truly become conscious consumers. Why wear animal-derived products, including fur, when there are alternatives that are just as good in quality? In fact, many major fashion houses, including Gucci, Burberry and Versace, have committed to no longer using real fur in their collections. No need to sacrifice animals and no reason to sacrifice style.

Faux fur is no longer the lesser quality that it was once associated with. When you see the material worn by models walking down the runways of Armani, Moncler, Coach and Tommy Hilfiger, just to name a few, you know that it’s truly the new fashion. It has that luxurious look and feel that you can mix and match with so many of your own outfits. What’s even better is that it doesn’t come with the astronomical price tag of real fur. There are both high fashion and street style options for you to wear when it comes to faux fur.

Choosing to wear faux fur also means that you can credibly talk about your environmental concerns and about all of us doing our own part, without looking like a hypocrite. It’s the best option for you to stylishly walk the talk.
